Agricultural testing involves a wide array of testing including environmental, water, soil, fertilizers, pesticides, and crop tests. The testing ensures both crop productivity and environmental compliance. Testing may include herbicides, pesticides, heavy metals, soil microorganisms and soil chemistries and pH, basic water chemistries, moisture, nutrients such as total nitrogen and phosphorus, etc. These test not only ensure the quality of the raw ingredients and final, edible products but also the basic safety of humans and the environment. Regulatory requirements generally site EPA, GLP, GAPs, ISO/IEC 17025 and 21 CFR Part 11. Many local governments and state departments share the responsibilities in regulatory monitoring.
